One of the leading tennis minds in San Diego, our Head Pro & Director of Youth Tennis is a top tier technician, tactician, and program builder.
As one of the most sought after coaches in Southern California, Michael has coached countless top juniors, including Joao Fonseca. For 2+ years Michael was the private coach for Joao. Joao went on to become the #1 junior in the world and is now shooting up the ranks of the ATP tour as just a teenager. Michael was handpicked by the Fonseca family to guide Joao during his time in America, and the two of them spent a lot of time together building technical and tactical aspects of Joao's game that have helped him to thrive on the global stage.
Before joining LJTC Michael helped direct the Barnes high performance program for 11 years at the legendary Barnes Tennis Center. After Barnes, Michael built his own thriving tennis academy, The La Jolla Tennis Academy. LJTA works with beginners to advanced competitive players and is the standard for tennis in La Jolla.
Michael has worked with thousands of juniors and adults of all ages and levels over the past 20+ years in San Diego, and now he's ready to help you!

Ty Johnson has been teaching for at least 30 years. With many tournament wins in his background, it is difficult to narrow down his many accomplishments. One outstanding 1995 achievement was being awarded San Diego Men’s NUMBER ONE tennis player in the thirty-fives. You will appreciate his expert tennis instruction during lessons, and his pleasant personality while encouraging your best performance on the court.
